On July 23rd, we went to our appointment with Dr. Huerter excited to hear our baby's heartbeat for the very first time. After completing the routine height/weight, blood pressure, etc., we noticed the heart monitor / microphone and the gel. Upon her arrival, Dr. Huerter measured Allison's "bump" and she commented that we were measuring big.
Although time passed quickly, things slowed down as she tried to find the heartbeat. Finally, we heard the distinct rhythym of 160 beats per minute and breathed a sigh of relief, along with a few tears, in knowing that things were on track with our pregnancy. For the first time, we had real evidence that our lives were going to change significantly by the end of January of 2009.
We could have listened to the heartbeat for hours, but the appointment was over rather quickly as we began the countdown to August 20th (our next appointment).
