Prior to leaving for our trip, we "modified" some fortune cookies. We carefully unwrapped each fortune cookie, removed the fortune with tweezers, and replaced the fortune with some that we had created. We even used a curling iron to re-seal the plastic wrappers. The fortunes were general in nature, but specific enough to provide some hint that a special delivery was on its way.
While in Bella Vista with Mike's parents, we went to PF Chang's on July 2nd for lunch. Allison slipped the box of rigged fortune cookies to the hostess, who then coordinated delivery to our table at the conclusion of our meal. When the fortunes came out, Mike's dad said he didn't want one; Mike said, "You should take one for fun." We each read our fortune aloud, and there was no conclusive evidence that Mike's parents understood or knew. Then, we shared the lucky numbers located on the back. Conveniently, they were the same on each; the lucky numbers were 01.30.09, which happens to be our projected due date! We had to clue them in by telling them, to which they were extremely excited. The waiter, who was in the loop the whole time, even brought us a celebration desert on the house.
While in Wichita with Allison's parents & The Wellborns, we again went to PF Chang's, this time for dinner on July 3rd. We gave the hostess the box of fortune cookies to give to the waitress. At the end of dinner we passed the cookies around and Allison's mom said she didn't want one! We told her she had to take one for fun and just read the fortune. It just happened that everyone's made sense to them and they didn't get the "baby" meaning. The fortunes said things like, Your knowledge will be called upon in the future, Your patience will be tested over the next 9 monthes, Miracles come in small packages, etc. We again had to point out the "lucky numbers" on the back and they found it funny that these were all printed at the same time. Then Allison's Dad said, "Maybe it is a date," and Allison said, "It is our due date," and the celebration began!
Wendy about jumped over the table to give hugs, Barrett kept saying he couldn't believe it, Allison's mom was, of course, crying, Lexi kept eating, Allison's dad was excited and gave her a hug, Matt told us congrats and kept repeating, "That is great!"
